Blackpool will be one of five UK locations from across the country to receive a share of £499,000 funding from Defra for the HM Commemorative Project, a tree planting scheme set up to honour and remember the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The funding will allow for 315 new trees to be planted, as part of further projects to increase the amount of trees across the town which will benefit our local parks.
Cllr Jane Hugo, Blackpool Council Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment, said: "We are delighted to be included as one of the areas for the Defra funding as part of the Trees For Cities project, and to be part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, ensuring lasting legacy to the Late Queen."
"The addition of the trees will be a great asset to the town, enabling us to enhance our green spaces and making areas more attractive and enjoyable to spend time in, for residents and visitors. The addition of these trees will also help us towards our goal of doubling our tree canopy from 4% to 10% by 2029 as set out on our Green and Blue Strategy."
