Blackpool Council has been awarded five million pounds of funding for a health inequalities research project from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).
Blackpool is renowned for many fabulous things such as our beautiful beaches, the world-famous illuminations and more, but sadly, Blackpool is also known to have poor life expectancy and health inequalities.
This funding will help bosses get to the bottom of why that is, the research will inform council and health services to ultimately improve people’s health across the town.
Research will be carried out in collaboration with local communities, The Lived Experience Team at Empowerment UK, the voluntary sector and research specialists such as Lancaster University and the National Institute of Health and Care Research.
Priorities will be the four areas that make health the most unfair:
➡ The first 3 years of life
➡ Housing
➡ Education, employment and skills
➡ Mental health.
