Police are appealing to identify a potential witness after a man died following a collision in Blackpool.
They were called at around 7:55pm on Monday 10th February to a report that a vehicle had collided with a man on the pedestrian crossing at the junction of Mowbray Drive on Plymouth Road.
Following enquiries, they believe that a vehicle may have driven around the man, who was in the road prior to the collision.
Police would like to speak to the driver of that vehicle, solely as a witness, to assist enquiries.
A man, believed to be in his 70s and from St Annes, suffered serious injuries, and was taken to hospital, where he sadly died. He has not yet been formally identified and enquiries are ongoing to try and trace his next of kin.
Following enquiries, on Thursday, February 13th, police arrested a man in his 70s from Blackpool on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
A 43-year-old man arrested earlier on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has since been released, and no further action will be taken against him.
DS Joseph Ghigi, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We are really keen to speak to the driver, as they may be a key witness to our investigation.
“I want to reiterate that the driver is being treated only as a witness, and is not in any trouble, but it is really important that we speak to them.
“If this is you, or if you know who the driver may be, I would encourage you to do the right thing, and come forward.”
