A Blackpool firm has been named as the North West’s second fastest-growing technology company, according to a new list – and among the top 100 in the UK.
Tandem Bank Limited, described as operating in the ‘banking fintech’ field, was shown in a league table to be experiencing annual growth sales of 84.70 percent over the past three years.
The table, included as part of the prestigious Sunday Times 100 Tech list, also showed that latest sales figures were put at £87.5m.
Fintech, short for financial technology, is any business which uses software and digital innovation to improve, automate, and deliver financial services, making them faster, more accessible, and often cheaper for consumers and businesses,
The research for The Sunday Times 100 Tech found that collectively the 100 companies on the list generated sales of £3.7 billion, up by £3 billion in the last three years.
In total these companies employ 23,100 people, having created 11,600 new jobs in the last three years. 81 companies on the list disclosed that they plan to make additional hires in the next 12 months, with 4,300 jobs planned in total.
What is Tandem?
Tandem Bank Limited is a prominent UK digital challenger bank which is recognised as one of the UK’s fastest-growing private technology firms, focusing on “greener” financial services.
These include green home improvement loans, electric vehicle financing, and savings accounts.
The company is headquartered at Viscount Court, Sir Frank Whittle Way, within the Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone.
The firm’s stated mission is to be a “greener” bank, helping consumers transition to a lower-carbon economy through specialised lending and products.
As a digital bank, meaning it operates without any physical high street branches, it offers instant access savings, ISAs, mortgages, and consumer loans.
Founded in 2014, Tandem grew significantly by acquiring Harrods Bank in 2018 and merging with another lender Oplo in 2022.
It currently employs more than 500 people across the UK, with over 250 staff based at its Blackpool headquarters.
