Blackpool - The Capital of Dance

Blackpool, renowned for its rich dance heritage, is set to host the world’s first fringe festival dedicated entirely to dance and movement – Capital of Dance.

This groundbreaking event, founded and created by Fit The Bill Limited and supported by funding from Blackpool’s Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), promises to transform the town into a vibrant hub of dance, attracting enthusiasts and professionals from around the globe.

From June 14th to July 14th, 2024, the Capital of Dance will showcase an eclectic mix of performances, street shows, workshops, and social dances across Blackpool’s iconic venues. Whether you’re passionate about ballroom, captivated by contemporary styles, or intrigued by traditional dance forms, there’s something for everyone.

The festival aims to celebrate the diversity of dance, offering an inclusive platform for artists and audiences alike. Special guests include Strictly star Karen Hauer, who will deliver a workshop on June 29th at the Winter Gardens as part of the workshop schedule.

You’ll get the chance to engage in hands-on workshops led by renowned dance professionals, where you can hone your skills, learn new techniques and experience the joy of dance. The social dance events will provide an opportunity to meet fellow dance enthusiasts, share your passion, and create lasting memories.

Over 140 different activations are planned, including live performances, workshops with celebrity dancers, theatre shows, dance-themed art exhibitions, community events, and dancing in the streets.

Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or a beginner, the Capital of Dance offers a welcoming environment to explore and enjoy various dance forms.

The festival also encourages participation from all corners of the dance community. Dancers, choreographers, community groups, and schools are invited to showcase their talent and creativity. You can register to perform in dance shows, conduct workshops, or organise social dances.

The vision for the festival is to transform theatres, art venues and unusual spaces across the town into dance hubs – filling them with dance workshops and shows catering for all ages and abilities. It already plans to return in 2025 from June 13 – July 13, with expanded offerings. V

Venues across Blackpool can apply now to host events for the Capital of Dance 2025 festivities.
