Guys Thatched Hamlet closes suddenly after 46 years

The operators of Guy’s Thatched Hamlet have announced they have ceased trading after 46 years.

The complex just off the A6 at Bilsborrow, between Preston and Garstang, has been run by the Wilkinson family since it opened its doors in 1980.

A statement posted on the doors of the venue by Kirk Wilkinson, director of Guy’s Eating Establishment’s Limited, said: “After 46 years of trading, we can confirm that Guy’s Thatched Hamlet has now closed.

“This has been a difficult decision and one made with considerable thought.

“We would like to sincerely thank our customers, staff and suppliers for their loyalty and support over the years.

“The hamlet has meant a great deal to many people, and as it moves through a period of transition, our focus is on bringing this chapter to close.”

The almost 14 acre site is home to Owd Nells Tavern, a restaurant, sports pavilion, function rooms, a cricket ground, bowling green and three large car parks, in addition to a 65 room hotel.

The business was put up for sale last February, with the listing stating the net turnover was around £4.2m.
