Man jailed for assaulting woman and engaging in controlling behaviour

A Fleetwood man has been jailed for assaulting a woman and engaging in controlling behaviour towards her.

Jase Dawe, 29, punched his victim on several occasions and once tried to strangle her using a bin bag.

He threatened her, and Dawe’s terrible behaviour led to her quitting her job, such was the effect it had on her.

Dawe’s violent and bullying actions, which happened when he was living in Blackpool, came to our attention in October 2025 when his victim texted a code word to a relative – showing she was in fear of her safety.

The relative contacted police and the victim courageously gave a statement about what had happened to her.

Even after this, Dawe contacted his victim and her relative, accusing them of bullying him by reporting the offences to us.

Justice caught up with Dawe when he appeared at Preston Crown Court for sentence on Wednesday (2nd September).

Dawe, formerly of Galloway Road, Fleetwood, had been found guilty after a trial at Blackburn Magistrates Court in July of assault causing actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, three offences of assault by beating and two offences of criminal damage.

The magistrates committed him for sentence at Preston Crown Court where he was jailed for three years and nine months and made subject of an indefinite restraining order.

PC Chloe Butcher of the West Response Investigations Team, said: “Dawe displayed violent, bullying and intimidating behaviour towards his victim which left her terrified.

“Preventing violence against women and girls is a priority of Lancashire Police.

“If you have been a victim of violence and of controlling behaviour, please report it.

“You will be supported and we will thoroughly investigate reports so that offenders can be brought before the courts.”
