New plans to open padel tennis facility at Poulton

Plans for two new padel tennis courts in Poulton have been put forward to accommodate the world’s fastest growing sport.

A planning application has been submitted to Wyre Council for a change of use of land to outdoor sport and recreation (use class F2(c)) and the installation of two outdoor padel courts with associated floodlighting on land at The Eagles, off Breck Road.

The proposals also include vehicular access, parking and hardstanding, the siting of a shipping container for use as a reception area and associated landscaping, cycle parking and bench seating.

The application site is owned by Wyre Council and includes the long-established Poulton Health and Fitness Centre.

It comes after another facility, Poulton Padel Club, was opened at Unit 6 Beacon Road, on Poulton Industrial Estate, earlier this month.

A Planning Statement by Abbott-Hull Associates, on behalf of the applicant listed as Mr A Stevens, concludes: “The current application is supported by a detailed Noise Impact Assessment, Ecology Scoping Assessment and Artificial Lighting Assessment addressing the principal amenity and environmental matters identified by the Council.

“The Noise Impact Assessment concludes that the development would not result in excessive or unacceptable noise at the nearest dwellings.

“The Lighting Assessment concludes that the proposed FILUX F2144 (lighting) installation can operate without unacceptable light intrusion, glare or skyglow subject to the stated aiming, switching and commissioning controls.

“The use of a booking-based sports facility, limited operating hours and controlled lighting allows the development to be actively managed.

“The development would provide a useful new outdoor recreational facility within an established sports and leisure complex, with clear social and economic benefits and without unacceptable effects on residential amenity, lighting, flood risk or the wider recreational character of the area.

“Subject to the detailed controls and supporting technical information described above, the proposal accords with the planning considerations identified by the Council and planning permission is respectfully requested.”
