The latest phase of improvements to the children's playground at Memorial Park in Fleetwood have been unveiled.
The £108,000 project has been funded through £104,000 of developer contributions secured through the planning process via Section 106 agreements, alongside a £4,000 contribution from Wyre Council.
Phase IV of the programme to improve play facilities at the popular park has now been completed, delivering a range of exciting new play opportunities for children and families.
The scheme included the removal of ageing play equipment and worn play bark surfacing, replacing them with 10 new play features, wet-pour safety surfacing and durable grass matting beneath lower-level equipment. The upgrades have been designed to provide creative, inclusive and high-quality play opportunities for children aged four to 12 years old.
A standout feature of the project is a bespoke 7.2 metre tall space net climber, installed as the centrepiece of the playground. Due to its height exceeding permitted development limits, planning permission was required before installation. The structure includes two hangout platforms, two slides and low-level access points, providing a challenging yet accessible play experience and creating a real "wow factor" for visitors.
The new equipment replaces a timber climbing frame and the previous loose-fill woodchip surfacing has been upgraded to a more durable resin-bonded safety surface, reducing ongoing maintenance requirements while improving accessibility for users.
Six new timber trail play elements have also been installed to help children develop balance, coordination, core strength and confidence through active play. These include a wobble bridge, triple somersault bars, double web climber, turbo challenger, dynamic bar and balance combination unit.
Constructed from durable Robinia timber with steel foundations for long-term stability and resistance to ground moisture, the equipment has been carefully selected to complement the natural surroundings of Memorial Park.
The playground's swing offering has also been enhanced and an advanced rotating seesaw designed to support children's motor skills has been installed.
