Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian died following a collision with a bin lorry in Freckleton.
Emergency services were called shortly before 8am this morning (Tuesday) to a report of the collision on Trinity Close, near to the Coach and Horses public house, Freckleton.
The pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, suffered serious injuries and despite the best efforts of emergency crews was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road remained closed for approximately six hours while the police dealt with a very complex scene.
The driver of the bin lorry, a man in his 50s from St Anne’s, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: ‘’This collision has very sadly resulted in a woman losing her life and my thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this time.
‘’We would appeal for anyone who saw what happened or who has any footage and who hasn’t yet spoken to police to come forward and contact us.’’
