20,000 people turn out for illuminations switch on

More than 20,000 people packed into Blackpool on Friday night to see Olly Murs switch on this year’s Illuminations.

The 41-year-old singer said it was “an honour” to be invited, adding he loved returning to the resort.

He performed an hour-long set before pressing the button at 9:15.

The free event also featured Toploader, X-Factor winner Louise Johnson, and Upbeat Rock Academy.
