The eleven award-winning green spaces across Hyndburn borough may soon reach a round dozen, following a major cash injection from the council.

Bullough Park, the almost 17-acre recreation ground at the top of Avenue Parade, is set to receive £50,000 worth of improvements after a major commitment from Hyndburn Borough Council.

The aim of this investment is to bring the park up to the standard of 11 other outdoor spaces across the area, which have all earned the internationally recognised Green Flag award for their quality and regular maintenance.

Munsif Dad, Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, said: “This council has always taken great pride in our parks, believing that everyone deserves to have access to green spaces to escape the stress of day-to-day life.

“Last year, we celebrated retaining all 11 of our Green Flag awards – the most of any borough in Lancashire. This year, we want to go even further by adding Bullough Park to this already impressive lineup.”

This fresh investment in Bullough Park will take the total amount invested in the green space over the past year to £250,000, following work from the

Forestry Commission in creating a new woodland and wetland space at the top end of the park.

With the aim of getting yet another Green Flag award for Hyndburn’s recreational spaces, this has included the creation of a wildflower meadow which will soon be followed with new benches and paths for visitors to soak in their new environs.

Cllr Dad added: “That is why we have committed £50,000 in our budget for the necessary renovations to ensure that Bullough Park reaches green flag award standard, providing our residents with another world class green space that can be enjoyed by all.

“I have no doubt that our hardworking Parks team are up to the challenge of beating their own record and providing ever-improving green spaces for the people of Hyndburn.”
