Sarah Smith says Labour needs the best of the movement working together.
If Burnham won the seat, he could potentially stand in any future Labour leadership contest.
It comes after Wes Streeting resigned from the Cabinet.
Other local Labour figures have called for change — but not all MPs are backing a leadership contest.
