New scheme to display names of Lancashire residents on air ambulances

Lancashire residents can have their names displayed on a North West Air Ambulance helicopter this Christmas as part of a pioneering scheme.

The North West Air Ambulance Charity (NWAA) has launched the new 'On Board with Us' campaign.

For a donation of £50 or more, supporters can submit a name of up to 30 characters, their own, a loved one’s, a Christmas tribute or memorial, which will then be displayed on the fleet of helicopters or critical care cars for 12 months.

Each participant receives a personalised certificate and thank you letter.

“Christmas is a time when people look for gifts that feel personal and meaningful, and it doesn’t get more meaningful than helping to save a life.," said Kelly Thomson from North West Air Ambulance Charity.

"Yours or your loved one’s name will become part of our crew, joining us as we deliver lifesaving care across the region,"

“The feedback we’ve had from people getting involved has been so heartwarming. I spoke to a lady who was giving it as a gift to her grandchildren for Christmas.

"Other people have done it in memory of family members to celebrate their birthdays.”

By taking part in On Board with Us, supporters help ensure that NWAA’s crews can continue delivering critical care long after the festive season ends.

The charity said that last year’s festive period showed how vital the service is during one of the busiest times of the year.

In just two weeks, the crew responded to 129 missions, treated 56 patients, including 12 at night and attended 49 medical emergencies, 24 road traffic collisions, and 21 accidental injuries.

They said that these figures highlight not only the demand for the service at Christmas, but also the urgency behind the charity’s appeal.

NWAA receives no government or NHS funding and relies entirely on donations to continue saving lives across Lancashire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire.

Spaces are selling fast and submissions close on January 4, with names added to the vehicles in spring 2026.

To get your certificates in time for Christmas, ring 0800 587 4570 or head to NWAA’s website HERE. Terms and conditions apply.
