Adapted e-scooter capable of reaching 90mph seized

Two e-scooters were seized in Rishton last week as part of Operation Centurion.

The Hyndburn Neighbourhood Policing Team, alongside the Roads Policing Unit, were out tackling the issue of illegal e-scooters and e-bikes following concerns raised by residents in the local area.

As a result, two e-scooters were seized during the operation, one of which was illegally adapted with a motor and was capable of reaching speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for the area, Mo Lorgat, said: “The community tell us on social media and via our Lancashire Talking survey that e-bikes and e-scooters are a priority concern.

“The scooter we have seized could reach speeds of 90mph, and this poses an incredibly serious risk to the rider, other road users and pedestrians going about their daily business.

“Through Op Centurion, we will continue to address the issue of these illegally adapted bikes and scooters, and I would urge anyone who spots them to report it to us.”

Operation Centurion, a county-wide initiative targeting anti-social behaviour including the illegal use of e-bikes, e-scooters, and general motorbike nuisance, backed by Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner.
