A passenger in the car, a man in his early 20s, suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital where he is in a critical condition.
The driver of the Passat, a man in his 20s, suffered minor injuries.
Det Sgt Matt Davidson from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost, my thoughts are with the passenger in the car as he undergoes treatment and care in hospital for his injuries.
“As we investigate the collision, we are appealing for anyone who saw it happen or has dashcam footage from the area, to get in touch.
“From our enquiries we are aware that people saw the Passat being driven prior to the collision, while there were people who stopped at the scene to assist prior to the emergency services arriving.
