A prolific caller from Blackburn who repeatedly contacted Lancashire Police has been jailed.
Gary Thomson, 44, of Mosley Street, Blackburn, was issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) on the 29th January 2025 for making 67 calls to Lancashire Police Force Control Room over a three-month period in 2024. The conditions of the CBO prohibited Thomson from contacting Lancashire Constabulary, unless for a genuine reason or emergency.
On 4th February 2025, Thomson was arrested on suspicion of breach of his criminal behaviour order after calling Lancashire Police ten times over a three-day period. He was charged and pleaded guilty at Blackburn Magistrates Court on 5th February 2025, where he was sentenced to 34 weeks in prison.
Blackburn with Darwen Neighbourhood Insp Kathryn McIntyre said, “The behaviour of Thomson meant that our phone lines and resources were being taken up and this prevented victims getting through to us in their time of need.
“This is a serious matter, and the sentence issued reflects this. We are here to help and respond to people who genuinely need our services, and people who are wasting our time with this behaviour could lead to someone being seriously injured or killed.”
