Man jailed following dangerous driving to avoid police in Blackburn

A man has been disqualified from driving for a year and jailed for eight months for dangerous driving to avoid police.

On Sunday 2^nd November last year, a Roads Police officer spotted a silver Kia Ceed being driven with no insurance on Bolton Road, Blackburn.

Driving dangerously, the driver then overtook a vehicle on Grimshaw Park, a busy town centre area of Blackburn, by entering the opposite carriageway.

The officer activated his emergency lights and sirens, and a pursuit followed. The driver then drove contra down a one-way street, mounting the pavement into the path of oncoming traffic. The car was found abandoned shortly after on Copperfield Street, Blackburn.

Following enquiries, the driver, Daniel Taylor, 21, was interviewed in connection with the incident.

At Blackburn Magistrates Court earlier this month, Taylor, formerly of Scotland Bank Terrace, Blackburn, appeared for sentence after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was jailed for eight months and was disqualified from driving for a year until an extended test of competence has been passed.

Sergeant Kasim Hussain of our Specialist Operations Roads Police Unit said: “This was a shocking example of driving that could have resulted in tragedy.

‘’Not only was the car being driven uninsured, but Taylor’s attempts to escape police put innocent lives in danger. At Lancashire Police we have a zero tolerance to dangerous driving, and I am pleased that Taylor has been given a prison sentence and a significant driving ban.”
