Burnley Council is being asked to consider proposals for new 3G football pitches at Prairie Sports Village and Burnley High School.
The proposals are aimed at addressing a shortage of all-weather, floodlit football pitches, helping more people to play regularly and reducing cancellations caused by poor weather.
At Prairie Sports Village, a funding application of up to £950,000 to the Football Foundation is being considered to support new and improved 3G pitches.
The proposals include replacing the synthetic surface of an existing pitch, constructing an additional new 3G pitch, and delivering associated access and car parking improvements.
This decision will be considered at an extraordinary Executive meeting on the 13th January 2026 to ensure the funding application is submitted by the required deadline.
At Burnley High School, proposals are also being considered to move forward with a long-term lease of land from the Education Partnership Trust, enabling a new 3G football pitch to be developed for school and community use, subject to Football Foundation funding.
These proposals will be determined at the Executive meeting on the 28th January 2026.
Cllr Jack Launer, Burnley Council’s executive member for housing, health and culture, said: “Good local sports facilities make a real difference to people’s lives, especially for children and young people who just want the chance to play, train and be part of a team.
“3G pitches mean football can go ahead all year round, whatever the weather, and they open the door to more girls’ teams, disability football and walking football. These proposals are about making sure our communities have the facilities they need, now and for the future.”
