Work is set to begin in March on street improvements in Pendle as part of a £55 million programme of investment across East Lancashire.
Works will start in Nelson and Brierfield in March, with improvements in Colne scheduled to follow in June.
The works form part of Lancashire County Council’s Safer, Greener and Healthier Streets programme, one of three connected projects, and will deliver improvements to make local streets safer and more accessible and support healthier travel choices.
Pendle is one of four East Lancashire districts benefiting from the programme, alongside Burnley, Hyndburn and Rossendale, as the major investment moves into its delivery phase.
The Pendle schemes will be delivered in phases to help manage disruption, with further information shared locally as work approaches. Ahead of the start of works, local residents and businesses will have the opportunity to find out more about the schemes, with the contractor hosting drop‑in information sessions in Nelson, Brierfield and Colne. Details of these sessions will be shared locally as work approaches.
County Councillor Brian Moore, cabinet member for Economic Development, said: “Residents in Pendle will start to see real, visible improvements to their local streets as this work gets underway.
“By making streets safer and easier to use, we’re helping people in Nelson, Brierfield and Colne to get around more easily and supporting healthier, more active communities.”
The Safer, Greener and Healthier Streets programme is one of three connected projects being delivered through Levelling Up East Lancashire, alongside Accessible and Vibrant Town Centres and Public Transport Improvements, all aimed at improving everyday life, supporting local economies and creating safer, more sustainable places to travel and spend time.
Prior to the start of works, staff from George Cox & Sons Ltd will host drop-in sessions in Nelson, Brierfield, and Colne. These sessions will provide residents, businesses, and stakeholders with information about the scheme and an opportunity to raise any questions or concerns.
The programme is funded by £49.6m from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund, alongside a £5m contribution from Lancashire County Council.
