Twenty-two nuisance vehicles, including illegal e-bikes and e-scooters, have been seized in Preston as part of a day of action targeting anti-social behaviour.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit, Road Crime Team and Preston’s Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out a coordinated operation at multiple locations across Preston, including Preston City Centre and the Ribbleton area.
The activity formed part of a nationwide initiative involving 25 police forces, aimed at tackling the illegal use of vehicles through a combination of enforcement, education and community engagement.
During the operation, officers seized 22 vehicles, including a number of illegal e-scooters and e-bikes. Crosser bikes and quad bikes being ridden unlawfully were also taken off the streets. The majority were seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act due to a lack of valid insurance or driving licence.
Vehicles seized under this legislation will not be returned and will instead be destroyed, ensuring they cannot continue to cause disruption or pose a risk to the public.
Sergeant Dean Skelton, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Through Operation Centurion, our ongoing county-wide initiative targeting anti-social behaviour, including the illegal use of e-bikes, e-scooters and nuisance motorbikes, we regularly carry out enforcement activity like this.
“Twenty-two vehicles have now been removed from Preston’s streets and are no longer able to cause concern for local residents. We hope these results demonstrate that we are listening to community concerns and taking action.”
Lancashire Police continue to work closely with local councils, housing associations and partner organisations to tackle anti-social behaviour and improve community safety.
