Bomb squad attend incident at Rivington after suspected grenades discovered

Police attended incident at Rivington this morning after suspected grenades were discovered.

They were called to Horrobin Lane, at the edge of Rivington reservoir at around 8am on Saturday (April 19), when a member of the public found what were suspected to be two grenade type devices.

Police made their way to the scene and a team from Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) were called in, with a cordon put in place around the area.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: ‘’A team from Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) have attended the site on Horrobin Lane and assessed the devices which appear to be training grenades from the 1940s-1960s.

‘’They were previously deactivated and posed no threat.

‘’The cordon has now been stood down and the area is open again for public access.

‘’Many thanks for your cooperation and understanding while we and our partners dealt with the incident.

‘’Have a happy and safe Easter weekend.’’
