Preston City Council has launched a new Community Health Grant Scheme to support local organisations delivering projects that help improve health outcomes for residents across the city.
The scheme will provide funding for community-led initiatives that address key public health priorities, including smoking cessation support, cancer pre- and post-diagnosis support, and work to promote the uptake of vaccinations.
Through the scheme, eligible organisations can apply for grants of up to £10,000 to deliver projects that make a positive difference to local people aged 18 and over in any ward of Preston.
Projects may include community events, awareness campaigns, educational activities, outreach programmes, training, or interventions that support residents to live healthier lives.
Cancer-related projects could focus on encouraging early diagnosis, providing cancer-related training, or delivering support that improves the wellbeing and quality of life of people affected by cancer before diagnosis, during treatment, or through aftercare.
A total of £75,000 is available through the grant programme. It is intended that approximately 70% of the funding will support smoking cessation activity, 20% will support cancer pre- and post-diagnosis projects, and 10% will support work to promote vaccination uptake.

“The Council is committed to supporting residents to live healthier lives, and we know there are many brilliant organisations in Preston already working closely with communities to promote important health messages.”
Preston City Council is inviting applications from organisations that can deliver projects supporting adult residents within Preston and meet the scheme’s eligibility criteria.
To be eligible, organisations must have an active business bank account and be able to provide end-of-year financial accounts or three months of bank statements. Applicants must also hold public liability insurance, and employers’ liability cover where relevant.
Projects must demonstrate how they will deliver agreed objectives within the required timeframe, with all funded activity completed by 31 March 2028.
