Amended plans have been submitted to Preston City Council for the full demolition of the Tithebarn Pub.
This followed independent specialist and demolition contractor reports that have deemed the property too dangerous to remain standing.
Further disintegration of the property since previous inspections, means that revised plans to try and save the full façade and front section of the property is unlikely.
Councillor Martyn Rawlinson Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Resources said: “Unfortunately two independent specialists have raised concerns about the property’s decayed structure and the reports show that it is highly unlikely that the building will be able to remain standing, with even partial demolition.
‘’The property is far too dangerous and poses a threat to public safety, especially to our new neighbours the Vault, Preston’s new youth zone and its young visitors.
“However, will do our very best to attempt to save some aspects of the façade or external wall that can be incorporated into future build designs for the site, and we also want to salvage some of the building’s materials that could potentially be reused in some way.”
Member Champion for Heritage, Councillor James Hull said: “It is very disappointing news that the Tithebarn Pub cannot be saved, even partially. Our priority now has to be one of public safety and we will move swiftly with demolition as originally intended.
‘’We will continue discussions with PPH around future community uses of the plot.”
Safeguards will be put in place to protect the neighbouring properties, the new youth zone, Vault and the historic Grade II listed mill building, formerly known as Aladdin’s Cove warehouse.
