Christmas Lights Switch On events

    There are a number of Christmas Lights Switch On events across the Fylde coast, Central and East Lancashire.

    Here are the details of just some of them.

    Friday November 24

    Layton

    TV soap sensation and West End favourite Tom Lister (Emmerdale’s Carl King) will join Britain’s Got Talent finalist and panto family favourite Steve Royle to help light up Layton!

    Blackpool Grand Theatre’s pantomime dream team will flick the big switch and turn Layton into a fabulous festive spectacle, 5:30-7:30pm.

    Get ready for an evening of fun Christmas activities for all the family before the all-important Christmas Tree is lit up by Tom Lister and Steve Royle at 6.15pm.

    Saturday November 25

    St Anne’s

    Santa will be heading out once again around St. Anne’s visiting several locations between 12 Noon and 3.30pm. Music and performance will commence in St. Anne’s Square (East Car-Park on St. Anne’s Road West) from 4pm and will conclude with the switching on of the street Christmas Lights and Tree.

    Fleetwood

    Fleetwood Town Council’s annual Christmas Lantern Parade and Switch On this year, is scheduled for Saturday the 25th of November 2023 from 4:30pm until 7:30pm.

    Members of the public will follow the illuminated tram on foot along the main carriageway with their lanterns. Stewards from the committee and the Rotary Club will wear hi-vis tabards and be positioned at the front and rear of the parade.

    The switch on of the town’s festive lights will take place at the Marine Gardens. Entertainment will be provided for the audience under the colonnade where a local school child will press the button to switch on the lights.

    Blackburn

    The ‘From Broadway to Blackburn: Christmas Lights Switch On Spectacular’ will take place on Saturday, November 25th from 2.30pm on King William Street.

    The event will feature an afternoon of dancing and singing performances from talented local music, dance and theatre groups, including Bernese Theatre School, Katrina’s Dance Academy, Lancashire Dance Academy, Made For Stage and Zoe Taylor Dance.

    Stars of this year’s Panto at King George’s Hall – Aladdin – will also be performing live on stage, as will the Blackburn Festival of Light Street Band.

    Leyland

    The event, taking place on Saturday 25 November, hosted in partnership with Leyland Town Team, will welcome Emmerdale favourite Jeff Hordley (who plays Cain Dingle in the soap), along with winner of The X Factor, Ben Haenow, to turn on the lights.

    The day will start at 12 noon on Hough Lane, with the main event taking place at 5.30pm.

    There will be lots to enjoy during the day including children's attractions, market stalls, street food, live music and entertainment from 3pm, including appearances from the Grinch. There'll also be a range of children's activities happening in Leyland Market.

    Colne

    Colne’s Christmas Light Switch On returns on Saturday 25th November to kick start the festivities in Colne town centre, with a fantastic day planned with a wide variety of free family friendly entertainment, with something for everyone to enjoy!

    There’s a host of live on stage from 12pm including Taz Entertainments, live music with Sophie Stott & Tom Scothern, performances from Just Imagine UK, Stage Door Youth Theatre and a sneak preview of Jack & The Beanstalk Panto!

    The event will also see the return of the magical torch lit procession before the ultimate finale live on stage where we will be joined by two very special guests, Andy Whyment & Steve Royle, followed by our fantastic firework finale!

    Andy Whyment, best known for his role as the loveable character Kirk from Coronation Street, is the special guest.

    Tuesday November 28

    Thornton

    The Thornton Festive Lights will be switched on at 4pm at the Shopping Centre, on Victoria Road East on Tuesday 28th November. The Switch On ceremony will be performed by two winners of the Thornton schools’ competition. They’ll be presented with their prizes by the Mayor of Wyre.
