Man jailed after rape at Accrington flat

A man has been jailed after raping a woman at a flat in Accrington.

On the 29th June 2021 Peter Winters lured a woman to his Accrington flat and then subjected her to a sickening assault.

This included throwing deodorant bottles, shampoo and a broom at her; putting shampoo and toothpaste on her head which ran into her eyes and blinded her; and hitting her in the face with a shower head.

He then boasted to a man about what he had done to her - laughing and telling him to come and look at the victim.

Winters then raped the victim, continuing with the prolonged attack even when she begged him to stop.

He then stole money from her, before eventually allowing her to leave.

As a result of an investigation by the Blackburn Rape and Serious Sexual Offences (RASSO) Team Winters, 20, of Lodge Street, Accrington, was arrested and charged with rape and assault occasioning actually bodily harm.

Following a trial at Preston Crown Court last year he was unanimously found guilty of rape.

He had already pleaded guilty assault occasioning actual bodily harm and making an unrelated indecent photograph / pseudo-photograph of a child offence.

Last week he was jailed for eight years and then given a four-year extended licence period after a judge deemed him to be dangerous. This means he will continue to be monitored by the authorities even after he is eventually released.
