Residents in Fylde are backing calls to end ongoing problems at Lytham Tip.
A petition has been launched after months of long queues, traffic congestion and disruption at the site, with residents repeatedly raising concerns that nothing has improved despite assurances that the situation was under review.
The tip, officially called Lytham Household Waste and Recycling Centre, is based on Saltcotes Road, Lytham St Annes and is open seven days a week from 9m until 5pm. It accepts various household waste for recycling, though vans/trailers need an appointment.
Fylde MP Andrew Snowden and County Councillor Tim Ashton have written again to Lancashire County Council after over 500 residents added their names to their open letter calling for urgent action to fix the ongoing problems.
The letter has been formally sent to the Reform-led administration at County Hall.
Andrew Snowden MP said: “Over 500 people have now added their names to this letter, and that tells its own story.
“Residents are fed up with the delays and the lack of clear decisions. This isn’t a complicated issue. People just want their local tip to work properly, without unnecessary rules, confusion or constant queues.”
County Councillor Tim Ashton added: “The strength of feeling locally is clear. People remember how the site worked before Covid, and they know it was better than what we have now.
“Residents are not asking for anything unreasonable. They want the County Council to stop wasting time arguing about flags and just give us a system that works for local residents.”
In the letter, they are calling on Lancashire County Council to:
• Return Lytham Tip to its pre-Covid layout
• Rule out any booking system
• Focus on practical improvements rather than further reviews and delays
Andrew Snowden said: “People are doing the right thing by recycling their waste properly. The council’s job is to make that easy, not harder. Residents have spoken clearly. Now the County Council needs to listen and act.
“This issue has gone on long enough. The council needs to stop kicking the can down the road and finally get Lytham Tip working again.”
Lancashire County Council was approached for a comment but previously stated: “If you have to visit the HWRC, please plan your visit for a quieter time to avoid queues and delays.
“The quietest times are usually between 10am-4pm during the week – please try and avoid visits on weekends where possible, as they often get very busy. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
