If you go down to Cleveleys seafront this weekend you might be mistaken in thinking you’ve walked onto the set of a Star Wars production.
Fans of the films – and the spin -off TV series Andor – have made the seaside resort the centre of the Star Wars galaxy after an episode of the series was filmed on location there back in May 2021.
Located on Cleveleys promenade, the iconic and futuristic-looking Cafe Cove was deemed to have the perfect look for the episode, with the seaside town doubling as the fictional location of Niamos, featured in episode 7.
Now this part of the Fylde coast is playing host to an unofficial get together of fans and traders, following the huge success of the first meeting last summer.
There will be quizzes, games and trade stalls throughout the day.
Expect participants to turn up dressed as their favourite characters, despite some inclement weather anticipated over the weekend, for a family fun day to remenber.
Where is it and when?
The big day, known as the ‘Star Wars Meet Up – Niamos’ is taking place on Sunday August 31, between 10.30am and 5pm.
In case of rain, the meet-up will be based at The Venue, across the road from Cafe Cove.
Organisers say: “Join us for our next Niamos Meet Up, we will have a Star Wars market and a mixture of your favourite Star Wars characters and droids.
“The event is a FREE family fun day out in Sunny Cleveleys AKA Niamos, named in the Star Wars series, Andor. “
The area’s association with Star Wars is certainly growing.
Only last week, four special guests travelled across galaxies to officially unveil a new brass marker commemorating the town’s role in the hit Andor series.
In true Star Wars style, the ceremonial ribbon was cut not by dignitaries, but by droids!
The marker, which received £1,952 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, is part of Wyre Council’s ongoing celebration of the borough’s screen credentials and aims to encourage more visitors to discover Cleveleys’ cinematic.
Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement, said: “This marker is a fantastic way to celebrate Cleveleys’ place in the Star Wars universe. It’s already bringing visitors to the area, and we hope it will continue to raise awareness among those who may not realise they’re standing on an official filming location.”
