Families across Fylde can dust off their vintage finest and prepare to step back in time as the much-loved Lytham 1940s Weekend returns this summer.
The popular event on the weekend of the 15th and 16th of August is set to transform Lytham into a living celebration of the wartime era, with two full days of free entertainment from 10am to 5pm featuring everything from stirring Winston Churchill speeches to authentic 1940s singing and dancing.
The main entertainment marquee on Lytham Green will host an exciting lineup including Derek Herbert as Winston Churchill with rousing wartime speeches, Colin Bourdiec with popular songs from the ENSA movement and George Formby numbers, and Johnny Victory.
Fan favourites the Bluebirds make their third full weekend appearance, with Helen Farrell making her Lytham debut. Lancashire Belle, Jane Francis, performs on Saturday only.
Beyond the main stage, visitors can enjoy military vehicles and dance to a resident 1940s DJ at the Mussel Tanks adjacent to the Promenade, with more dancing in Clifton Square. Vintage traders, weapons displays and military charities complete the authentic wartime atmosphere, while a licensed bar keeps spirits high in the main marquee.
Councillor Jayne Nixon, Lead Member for Tourism, Leisure and Culture, said: "Lytham 1940s Weekend has become one of our most popular annual events, bringing together families, history enthusiasts and our community to celebrate this important era.
‘’It's wonderful to see Lytham come alive with 40s glamour, and the weekend offers something special for everyone to enjoy completely free of charge."
