A well-known Fleetwood GP is to chair a £20m community project to help regenerate the town.
Dr Mark Spencer will helm the Pride in Fleetwood funding panel as part of a Government project which will see local residents take the lead on key decisions.
The town will receive £2million for the next ten years to revive its public spaces, high street and community assets.
In November, Blackpool North and Fleetwood MP Lorraine Beavers said the search was on to find a suitable local figure who could take on the chairman role, which is a voluntary post.
Dr Spencer is well known as the founder and an ambassador for Healthier Fleetwood, as well as chair of the Fleetwood Trust – owners and operators of The HUB Fleetwood.
He is also an experienced GP who has been involved in many other community initiatives.
Applications to join the panel are now being invited. Board members must work or live in Fleetwood, prioritise community voices at all times and commit to attending a minimum of one board meeting per month.
Ms Beavers and Dr Spencer said in a joint statement: “We want the board to represent the community of Fleetwood so specific details on time commitments & meetings will be developed by the board. We hope that this creates an inclusive board that truly represents the voice of Fleetwood’s community.”
Those interested in joining the panel acn send expressions of interest to lorraine.beavers.mp@parliament.uk (up to 400 words) by 10am, 19th January 2026.
