Dave Fishwick has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the King’s Birthday Honours.
The 55-year-old from Burnley is being recognised for services to finance, business and charity.
Fishwick, who left school at 16 with no qualifications, built a successful business supplying minibuses before founding Burnley Savings and Loans to support people following the 2008 financial crisis.
His story was adapted into the Netflix film Bank of Dave and its sequel, which focused on his campaign against loan sharks.
Speaking after the announcement, Fishwick said his award showed that “if you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything”, adding that self-belief and determination had been key to his success.
Other Lancashire honours include awards for NHS nurse Sara Jane Barr-Frost and former police chief Terry Woods.
