The K’s to headline grand reopening of Blackburn’s iconic King George’s Hall

One of the UK’s most exciting indie-rock bands, The K’swill headline the grand reopening of Blackburn’s iconic King George’s Hall.

Following the release of their debut album ‘I Wonder If The World Knows?’ the band’s meteoric rise has been fuelled by sold-out UK tours, scooping Best Breakthrough Act at the 2024 Nordoff Robbins Northern Music Awards, and appearances on major festival stages including Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Isle of Wight, Camp Bestival and Kendal Calling.

And, in a coup for Blackburn, it’s just been announced that they’ll headline the grand reopening of King George’s Hall with a special gig on Saturday, September 26.

They will be the first band to play at the iconic venue after a £13.5m transformation – the most significant investment since the iconic hall first opened more than a Century ago – with the event also supporting local homelessness charity, Nightsafe.

Announcing the news, the band said: ‘’We’re buzzing to be part of such a special night.

‘’King George’s Hall has an incredible history and it’s a real honour to be the first band back on stage after its transformation.

‘’We can’t wait to see everyone in Blackburn and help kick off this exciting new chapter for the venue.’’

The K’s second studio album, Pretty On The Internet, was released in July 2025.

Produced by Jim Lowe (Stereophonics, Taylor Swift, Dandy Warhols) and mixed by Pete Hutchings (Royal Blood, Panic! At The Disco, Foals, Adele, Florence + The Machine and Nothing But Thieves), the album reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart on 1 August 2025, outselling a rejuvenated Oasis by more than 10,000 copies despite the band’s huge streaming success.

Councillor Phil Riley, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: ‘’We’re hugely excited to be announcing that The K’s will headline the grand reopening of King George’s Hall this September.

‘’For more than a century, it’s been an iconic entertainment venue, attracting performers of the very highest calibre.

‘’From Queen to The Beatles, David Bowie, and more recently Liam Gallagher and Florence + The Machine, they’ve all graced its stage – and now, following a significant programme of investment, we’re thrilled to be looking ahead to the next chapter in its story and welcoming The K’s – one of the UK’s most exciting indie-rock bands.’’

The impressive Grade II listed venue, which first opened in 1921, has undergone extensive refurbishment both inside and out – including upgraded bars, improved seating, new lifts, lighting, bathrooms and more – every detail designed to create an even better experience for audiences and performers.

And a brand-new ‘The King is Back!’ campaign has also just launched with a new look for the venue’s brand and a packed programme to look forward to – everyone from the likes of Paul Smith to Tim Peake and Gabrielle.

‘’For decades it’s been enjoyed by audiences from right across Lancashire and beyond, and these extensive works will ensure it can be enjoyed by generations of audiences to come.
