The Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP has launched a campaign to relocate the House of Lords to the Winter Gardens.
Paul Maynard has presented a new Bill to parliament, known as Relocation of the House of Lords (Report to Parliament) Bill, which seeks to relocate the House of Lords to the Empress Ballroom.
The Bill will get its second reading in the coming weeks.
Mr Maynard said: ‘’There are several reasons for this in my view.
‘’Firstly think how many speeches have been made in the Ballroom at Party Conference, from Churchill to Mrs Thatcher, Attlee to Blair, so that room has political history.
‘’Secondly I truly believe that those who legislate and control our laws should see the country they see over.
‘’Coming to Blackpool on a permanent basis will ensure their Lordships get out about and can take on board the concerns of the people of Blackpool North & Cleveleys.
‘’This Bill will get people talking and provoking a conversation about how we can get the House of Lords out of Whitehall and really understanding the priorities of the United Kingdom.’’
