A drink driver has been arrested after falling asleep at wheel on the M6 near Charnock Richard.
Police were called out in the early hours of the morning after being alerted to a van that had seemingly broken down in lane three of the motorway.
The caller initially believed the van had broken down and called us out of concern for the driver.
Police attended the area and gained entry to the van, only to find the driver asleep at the wheel.
He was subsequently tested for alcohol, giving a reading of 59 (the legal limit is 35).
A 45-year-old man from Batley was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: ‘’Clearly this could have ended with a serious or even fatal collision, so our thanks go to the member of the public who alerted us.
‘’Drink-driving will not be tolerated and we hope this shows that those who put other motorists in danger will be dealt with robustly and proportionately.’’
