A man has been jailed after burgling a vets practice in Colne.
Michael Dwyer, 42, was arrested within minutes of breaking into the Stanley House Veterinary Practice, Albert Road.
When searched in custody, £380 which he had taken in the burglary was found hidden in his underwear.
Police were called to the vets practice at 5.05am on Saturday 17th January to a report that the building had been broken into.
The front door had been smashed to gain entry and an untidy search made behind the reception desk and in a storage room.
CCTV in the town centre showed a man running from the shop wearing a dark coloured tracksuit and carrying a B&M carrier bag.
Officers stopped and detained Dwyer just after 5.30am on Stanley Street
Police Dog Bane tracked and found the B&M carrier bag in the area, the bag containing clothing which matched that of the man seen running from the shop.
Dwyer, of Bradford Road, Keighley, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and was later charged with burglary of a non-dwelling.
He pleaded guilty at Blackburn Magistrates Court last week (19th January) and was jailed for eight months.
PC Daniel Hodgson of the Response Investigation Team based at Burnley Police Station, said: “We take all reports of burglary very seriously.
“Our officers responded to this burglary in Colne within minutes of the call being made to us.
“We detained and arrested Dwyer very close by, he was caught red handed. Dwyer is now in prison serving a sentence.”
