A brand-new outdoor ice rink is coming to Preston city centre this Christmas, promising festive fun for all ages under the historic Preston Market canopy.
The real ice rink — covering 400 square metres — will open on 22 November and run until 4 January 2026, offering skating sessions daily from 11am to 9pm, with earlier openings on weekends and peak days. Each session includes skate hire, though visitors are welcome to bring their own, and the rink can accommodate up to 60 skaters at a time.
Families and spectators will also be able to enjoy a mini festive village next to the rink, complete with ski chalet-style cabins serving warm food and drinks.
David Krol, Director of DNK Event Services and Preston On Ice, said: “Whether you’re an avid skater practising your pirouettes or a first-timer hugging the rail, the rink caters for all ages and abilities. We’re thrilled to be setting up under the iconic Preston Markets canopy — it’s the perfect spot for festive fun in the heart of the city.”
Councillor Martyn Rawlinson, Deputy Leader of Preston City Council, added: “Preston On Ice is a fantastic addition to our Christmas events programme and will help boost footfall in the city centre during the busy shopping period.”
The event follows the temporary relocation of Preston’s outdoor market to the Box Market while construction works continue at Amounderness House. The Market canopy space is being used for seasonal events that can safely operate with minimal vehicle access.
