Fylde Council is backing the Royal Life Saving Society UK’s Drowning Prevention Week campaign.
The initiative, running from June 13 to June 20, aims to raise awareness of water safety ahead of the busy summer season.
The campaign highlights that 3,615 people have drowned across the UK and Ireland in the past five years, with deaths among 13 to 17-year-olds rising by 67 per cent.
Councillor Chris Dixon warned that the Fylde Coast’s beaches can be deceptively dangerous, with fast-changing tides and hidden risks.
Residents and visitors are being encouraged to learn the Water Safety Code, never swim alone and supervise children closely near the water.
