The Clarets may have had a rough year in, and now out of, the Premier League, but relegation is not the only change coming for Burnley FC fans.
Soon enough, they should be able to see a new look for their historic Turf Moor stadium, after a series of new signs, digital boards, and changes to the turnstiles were approved by Burnley Borough Council.
‘The Turf’ will now have rooftop signs reading ‘UP THE CLARETS!’ over where the home players walk in, as well as the words ‘TURFMOOR’ on top of a new curved digital sign that wraps around a corner of the stadium facing out onto Harry Potts Way.
With new LED gantry displays being fitted to welcome fans as well, this latest stamp of approval from the council will help the club to tie together a major set of renovations that have been taking place over the past three years to modernise the grounds.
Yet, while fans turning up at the stadium on match days will see Burnley’s new digital displays in their full glory, the club has been handed some strict conditions for its new light-up displays.
For example, the large curved digital display facing Harry Potts Way has only been granted permission to be turned on for the four hours preceding a match ‘and at no other time.’
This is to prevent the lit-up sign from distracting passing drivers, as well as to protect the regular appearance of the area for the many residents who live around the stadium.
These rules do not apply to the other digital displays going up around the grounds, with the screens facing the car park and the access off Belvedere Road granted permission to operate between 8am and 7pm, unless there’s an evening game, in which case they can display until 11pm.
Other conditions stipulate that these signs can only display moving images in the hours before kick off, with no flashing lights and ‘a smooth uninterrupted transition’ between advertisements.
Approving the new signage at Burnley FC, the council said these rules were ‘in the interest of public safety’.
