Hyndburn Leisure is inviting contractors to tender for phase two of the redevelopment of Great Harwood’s historic Mercer Hall.
The trust is now looking for suitably qualified and experienced consultants and suppliers to bid for work on the next stage of the upgrade of the key heritage and community venue in the borough.
Mercer Hall officially reopened earlier this month following the completion of a the first £500,000-plus phase.
Works included reinstating a floor in the main hall, redecoration, installation of pigeon deterrent equipment to protect the exterior, and accessibility improvements to make the venue more inclusive for all users.
Mercer Hall, built between 1913 and 1921, has been the subject of bitter controversy since Hyndburn Council decided in 2022 to confirm the permanent closure of its swimming pool in favour of the new purpose-built £12 million Cath Thom Leisure Centre at Wilson Playing Fields in Clayton-le-Moors.
The appointed Phase Two specialists will be required to lead and deliver pre-construction work up to RIBA Stage 4, with a specific focus on the two ground-floor wings of Mercer Hall and the former reception, sauna and steam room areas
In addition, Hyndburn Leisure is keen to hear from experts with experience in stage installation, venue seating, and recording studio soundproofing and acoustic design
A Hyndburn Leisure spokeswoman said: “This phase of work represents a significant step forward in the transformation of Mercer Hall, helping to secure its long-term future while enhancing its role as a cultural, creative and community asset.
“The Invitation to Tender is now open, and full details, including scope, requirements and submission information, are available on the Hyndburn Leisure website.
“Hyndburn Leisure welcomes interest from organisations with the relevant expertise and a passion for high-quality, heritage-led regeneration projects.”
