Preston City Council is once again offering additional financial support to help vulnerable pensioners with the rising cost of living, providing eligible households with a one-off payment of £100 towards food and fuel costs.
The support is being made available for another year to provide additional help to pensioners who did not receive the £200 payment available in 2024/25.
The support is available to pensioners living in Preston who currently receive Council Tax Support but are not in receipt of Pension Credit. The scheme aims to help residents manage increasing household costs during the winter months and provide assistance with essential living expenses. Many older residents continue to face financial challenges as the costs of food, energy and other everyday necessities remain high. The latest round of targeted support forms part of the council's ongoing commitment to helping those most affected by the cost-of-living pressures.
The payment can be used towards a range of essential household costs, including heating, electricity and groceries, helping residents stay warm and well during the colder months.
Councillor Peter Kelly, Cabinet Member for Communities at Preston City Council, said: "We know that many pensioners continue to face difficult choices when it comes to managing household budgets, particularly during the winter.
‘’This funding is designed to provide practical support to residents who may be struggling with the cost of food and fuel.
"We would encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible to apply and make use of the support available."
Applications can be completed online through a simple application form. Family members, friends or carers can also apply on behalf of an eligible pensioner, although any payment awarded must be made into an account belonging to the applicant.
Eligible households will receive a one-off payment of £100.
Residents can find out more about the scheme and submit an application by visiting the council's Cost of Living Support webpage: https://www.preston.gov.uk/cost-of-living-support-for-pensioners
