Students at Preston College will take part in a 24-hour Danceathon next month to celebrate the life of a much-loved student and raise money for a local charity.
The fundraising event, organised by students from the college’s Performing and Production Arts courses, will run from 10am on February 12 until 10am on February 13 in the Preston College Theatre. It is being held in loving memory of Nicole Parker, who sadly passed away shortly before Christmas.
During the Danceathon, students will dance continuously for 24 hours, performing to a range of themed music sets. The event will be live-streamed via the Preston College Facebook page, allowing members of the wider community to watch, show their support and make donations.
All funds raised will go to the North Lancashire Down Syndrome Group, a charity that supports individuals with Down syndrome and their families across the region. The cause is one that was close to Nicole’s family, organisers said.
College staff described the event as both a heartfelt tribute and an opportunity to raise awareness of the work carried out by the charity, while bringing students and the local community together.
Donations can be made online here: https://www.givengain.com/project/sara-raising-funds-for-north-lancashire-down-syndrome-family-and-carer-group-117371, and organisers have welcomed support from the public, as well as interest from media outlets. Interviews, photographs and further information are available ahead of the event.
