Parking restrictions are to be widened close to an expanding school in suburban Preston.
Pupil numbers at Cottam Primary School are gradually doubling from 210 to 420 as part of a phased increase in the capacity of the Haydocks Lane site.
Now, Lancashire County Council has published plans to introduce a parking ban on a section of the route where waiting is currently unlimited.
Double yellow lines will be extended on Haydocks Lane beyond the point at which they currently end at the roundabout junction with Greenside. The change will see the round-the-clock restrictions continue on both sides of the road, for just under 40 metres, in the direction of Cottam Way.
Bollards will also be installed along the verge, mirroring those already in place between Merry Trees Lane and Greenside.
Meanwhile, a specific ‘School Keep Clear’ zig-zag warning will be painted in front of a new car park being built as part of the school extension.
A report from County Hall highways bosses outlining the measures says they will “prohibit obstructive parking to improve visibility [and] increase safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers using the new car park entrance”.
The parking prohibition was included within the planning application for the construction of the school’s new facilities, which were granted permission by the county council’s development control committee last September.
Nevertheless, the highways change is currently open to public consultation and anybody wishing to comment should email tro-consultation@lancashire.gov.uk, quoting ref:LSG4/102373/AFR, by 3rd April – or write to: The Director of Law and Governance, Lancashire County Council, PO Box 100, County Hall, Preston, PR1 0LD.
