A bar in Blackpool has been closed down following a serious assault last month.
At around 4:15am on Saturday 18 April, officers were called to reports of a serious assault at Notorious Bar, Queen Street in which one person sustained stab wounds and required hospitalisation.
Lancashire Police requested a summary review of the premises, which the licensing committee of Blackpool Council held on Monday 11 May. Elected members of the committee made the decision to revoke the licence permanently.
Licensing Sergeant, Nat Cox, said: “Through NightSafe, we are actively working with licenced premises to provide a safe and welcoming environment in Blackpool.
“Good nights out start with safe spaces and unfortunately Notorious Bar was deemed unsuitable to continue trading and their licence was revoked. The premises was a cause for concern in our community and the violent incident last month resulted in people needing hospital treatment.
“This situation was entirely unacceptable, and we requested a licence review, which ultimately led to it being revoked and the premises being closed. I hope this reassures our communities that we will pursue every possible avenue to protect public safety.
“I also hope it serves as a clear warning to other licensed venues that firm action will be taken whenever concerns arise.”
NightSafe is a countywide campaign based on how Lancashire Police and partners make Lancashire safe at night. This includes everything from preventing predatory sexual behaviour and violent crime to working with licensees to put proper safeguarding in place.
