Blackpool Council’s road maintenance steps up with £6m investment

Sixteen residential roads in Blackpool are set to get resurfaced over the next eight weeks, as Blackpool Council starts a huge investment in additional road maintenance.

Starting this week, a range of roads will be resurfaced across the town.

Blackpool Council’s road maintenance budget has increased by £6m this year, targeted at resurfacing and restoring key routes, as well as improving the condition of residential roads across the town, meaning smoother, safer, and greener journeys for residents, businesses and visitors.

If left untreated, the surface of the roads will continue to deteriorate and cause further issues to the foundation of the roads.

Cllr Paula Burdess, Blackpool Council’s Cabinet Member for highways, said: “We are fully committed to improving Blackpool’s roads.”

“For years, we have done preventative maintenance and resurfacing focused on major commuting roads but I know residents are keen to see their local streets fixed too. This marks the beginning of an intensive campaign to improve Blackpool’s most challenging streets and restore them to the quality our residents expect.

"There will be some minor road closures and inconvenience for residents, and we ask throughout this period, that you can be patient and remember to build some extra time into your journeys in the certainty that a short period of disruption will result in much improved road surfaces across the town."

As well as the resurfacing work, residents are also able to report any individual potholes to the council, by visiting www.blackpool.gov.uk/reportaroad
