Residents who are against plans to build 99 new homes on fields in Carleton are planning a demonstration this weekend.
The proposals to build a new estate on land bordering Carleton, Poulton and Blackpool is attracting massive opposition from residents as well as Wyre councillors.
The development has been earmarked for a large area of farmland off The Lane, bounded by Blackpool Road and Blackpool Old Road and to the east of Carleton Crematorium.
If approved, it would be the latest development which has seen many hundreds of new homes built in the area in and around Poulton within the past five years.
Hundreds of objections to the plans have been lodged with Wyre’s planning portal.
Protesters are unhappy about the loss of actual greenspace, the impact on traffic and road surfaces, schooling, GP places and local wildlife.
The presence of a herd of deer on the land has particularly added to concerns about the loss of natural habitat.
There was a smaller protest at the weekend just gone but the one this weekend is expected to be bigger.
It is due to take place on Saturday, May 16 at 11am, near to the farm and the Carleton Crematorium entrance.
Among the protesters is resident Catherine Carter, who said: “We’re expecting this demonstration to be bigger and anyone is welcome to support us.
“We need to protect the habitat of nesting/breeding migrating birds, deer, owls and bats which live on the fields at Blackpool Road.
“We also need to protect the communities of Carleton and Thornton.”
The application, proposed by Blackpool Council, has a complex history, with a version of the scheme having already been rejected by Wyre but approved on appeal by the Planning Inspectorate.
A planning statement in support of the application says: “The scale of development proposed is in keeping with the scale and function of Poulton-le-Fylde as one of the main towns in the district and there is also no reason why a high quality design could not be secured in line with relevant Development Plan policy.
“Ultimately, when the economic, social and environmental impacts are considered together, the proposals comprise sustainable development and there are no impacts which outweigh the aforementioned benefits.
“Moreover, the application complies with the relevant policies of the adopted Local Plan and as such, outline permission ought to be granted.
