The opening date for Blackpool’s newest attraction has been confirmed.
The Upside Down House has been taking shape on the promenade near South Pier for the last few weeks.
Finished with a distinctive bright blue exterior, the two-storey structure is designed to appear to be upside down on its roof with a slight angle, creating novel scenarios with selfie opportunities inside, such as a bed appearing to be on the ceiling.
So far it has met with mixed reactions from locals, including comments that its is “an eyesore” and “a white elephant”.
Nevertheless, there is also a great deal of interest in it as the house nears completion.
The company behind the attraction, Upside Down House UK Ltd, say Blackpool’s house will open on Tuesday June 9.
The website also gives some additional details about the attraction, one of several across the UK and Europe.
It states: “The biggest Upside Down House has arrived on Blackpool’s iconic Promenade! Designed for visitors of all ages; this interactive photo experience invites guests to step into a world where nothing is quite as it seems – perfect for capturing mind-bending photos and unforgettable memories.
“With its striking blue exterior inspired by its seaside surroundings near South Pier, the real magic begins inside, where gravity is flipped on its head and every room offers a surreal twist on reality. From floors becoming ceilings to furniture defying expectations, prepare to see the world from a completely different perspective.
“The quirky bespoke interior has been created by the Upside Down House Creative Team, featuring 13 uniquely themed rooms exclusive to Blackpool.
“Explore a playful circus-themed room full of chaos, a quirky teen bedroom with unexpected surprises, a cosy BookTok-inspired reading nook, an interactive games room, and even a bold leopard-print master bedroom. Each space is designed to amuse, confuse, and delight at every turn.”
The scheme was granted planning permission by Blackpool Council in March this year.
