Residents in Poulton-le-Fylde are benefiting from improved road conditions following the completion of a full resurfacing scheme on Curzon Road.
The work has improved the full length of the route, helping to create a smoother, safer journey for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, as well as improving the look and feel of the area for local communities. It was delivered by the county council’s own in-house highways team, who carry out resurfacing works across Lancashire.
The approach used on this scheme also incorporates recycled materials from the existing road surface and lower‑carbon construction methods, helping reduce environmental impact while delivering a durable, longer-lasting finish.
The scheme is part of Lancashire County Council’s wider investment in highways, with £72 million being invested this year to improve and maintain roads across the county, focusing on the routes people use every day.
An additional £5 million has also recently been approved to accelerate improvements to road condition, with a focus on preventative treatments on key parts of the network.
Alongside this, the county council continues to carry out day-to-day repairs across the network through its Managed Service Contract. Through this approach, repairs are now around three times larger than before and backed by a 12‑month warranty, helping to strengthen roads and reduce the likelihood of potholes returning.
County Councillor Warren Goldsworthy, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: “We know how important well-maintained roads are to people’s everyday lives, whether that’s getting to work, school or simply getting around their local area.
“This scheme on Curzon Road will make a real difference for residents, improving journeys and helping the area look and feel better for the community.
“We want people to feel proud of where they live, and investing in our roads is a key part of that.
"That’s why we’ve recently committed an additional £5 million on top of our wider £72 million highways programme to make Lancashire’s roads safer and better for everyone.”
