Chorley gets race ready

Runners will take over the town centre for the return of the annual Chorley 10K and 2K Family Run over the weekend.

With a record number of entrants signed up, alongside more activities and entertainment than ever before, the event promises to be a memorable day on Sunday (May 3).

Whether you’re taking part, supporting friends and family, or simply coming along to soak up the atmosphere, here’s everything you need to know about the Chorley 10K and 2K Family Run.

Races:

  • Organised by Chorley Council in conjunction with Fylde Coast Runners, and sponsored by the Anderton Centre (part of the University of Greater Manchester group), the event will take place on Sunday 3 May 2026 from 9:30am in Chorley town centre.
  • Following mass warmups, the 2K Family Run will start at 9.30am followed by the Chorley 10K at 10.30am. Both races start and finish on Market Street and will be started by the Mayor and Mayoress of Chorley, Councillor Alistair Morwood and Jane Morwood.
  • Competitors will receive a well-deserved unique medal at the finish line, designed by eleven year-old Sheldon Yuen (winner of a ‘design a medal’ competition). The medal also gives recipients access to some great medal holder perks from local businesses – see checkoutchorley.com/medalholderperks for further information.

Entertainment:

  • Alongside the excitement of the races, there’ll be plenty more to enjoy throughout the day. Entertainment will be taking place at various locations. Highlights include a DJ set in Astley Park, live entertainment in and around the covered market, such as a guitarist, singers, bubble artist, plus samba drummers popping up at key spots around the town. Wellbeing village and covered market:

  • The 1498 Food and Drink area of the covered market will be open on the day for delicious food and drink as well as live music in the afternoon.

  • Fazakerley Street and Cleveland Street will be transformed into the event’s wellbeing village, full of businesses, organisations offering information and activities, including face painting (fee applies). The event sponsors, the Anderton Centre, will also be bringing their climbing wall to the wellbeing village for visitors to enjoy for free, along with other activities. Visit checkoutchorley.com/chorley10K to see who’ll be there.

Parking and road closures:

  • Most town centre car parks are free on a Sunday (with the exception of the Flat Iron car park). More information can be found at chorley.gov.uk/carparks
  • Road closures will be in place on the day of the event from from 8am to 1pm on parts of Market Street, Southport Road, St Thomas’s Road and Park Road. Further details can be found at checkoutchorley.com/chorley10K
Signage will be on display in advance of the race.

On Saturday 2 May there will be no overnight parking on Market Street (from the junction at High Street to the junction at St George's street) and Park Road (adjacent to the park gates).

Places for the 2K Family Run have now sold out (no entry on the day), but places are still available for the Chorley 10K. Even if you aren’t running, come down to Chorley town centre, line the route to cheer on the runners and enjoy the fabulous atmosphere and entertainment.
