The leader of Reform UK controlled Lancashire County Council has vowed it will not be removing Union and St George’s Cross flags from lampposts.
The authority is responsible for highways in 12 boroughs including Preston, Hyndburn, Ribble Valley, Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale.
It leader Cllr Stephen Atkinson joined the party’s 11 other council leaders across England in making the pledge.
The spoke put after Tower Hamlets Council and Labour-controlled Birmingham City Council were reported to have removed the Union and St George’s Cross flags that have been hung from lampposts as part of ‘Operation Raise the Colours’, despite both allowing their Palestinian counterpart to fly throughout their areas.
Cllr Atkinson, who chairs the Reform UK Local Government Association group, said: “Reform UK councils are clear: where done sensibly, we fully support the flying of Union and St George flags on lampposts.
“These flags are not only a sign of unity and inclusion, but also of national pride.
“We will never get in the way of those who wish to express love for their country.”
Leader of Reform UK Nigel Farage MP said: “Union flags and the Cross of St George should and will fly across the country.
“Reform UK will never shy away from celebrating our nation.”
