Lancashire friends to undertake epic challenge for mental health charity

Three friends from Lancashire are aiming to complete an epic charity challenge to climb the ten highest mountains in Scotland back to back as fast as possible.

Friendship trio, Peter McLay, Bryn Catherwood and James Sunter-Story have announced the final chapter of their ‘SUMMIT 10’ challenge set to take place on 24th July.

The trio who began the self made SUMMIT 10 challenges in 2023 are set to climb the ten highest mountains in Scotland back to back to raise funds for mental health charity, Lancashire Mind.

This comes on the back of two previous fundraising challenges which saw the friendship group climb the 10 highest mountains in England in 2023 and the ten highest mountains in Wales in 2024, raising funds for Dementia UK and The Children’s Hospital Charity. Both challenges were filmed into a wider documentary piece which both sit on YouTube.

The team wanted to challenge themselves further this year building upon the work already completed with an epic Part III focusing on a wider fundraising campaign for Lancashire Mind UK.

The challenge, which will be filmed for a documentary, will be the most technical challenge the group have ever done, due to the terrain, challenging landscapes and logistics.

Planning began back in November 2024 with the challenge set to take three days to complete. Last year’s SUMMIT 10 which took place in Wales took 23 hours and 47 minutes with a total distance of almost 60 km covered across the 1 day period and 2022’s challenge in England taking 30 hours and 45 minutes with almost 107 km covered.

Peter McLay said: “When I started SUMMIT 10 I wanted to test myself both mentally and physically with an incredible challenge that would raise funds for charities close to my heart. When James and Bryn agreed to join me on the first challenge after I came up with the concept, I knew this would be a monumental experience for us all however didn’t expect this to result in multiple years of extreme expeditions, and huge fundraising rounds.

“As we move towards SUMMIT 10 Chapter Three, we are so grateful for all of the support we have received and looking forward to taking on another epic expedition continuing the SUMMIT 10 journey.”

Official event partners include Pursue Fitness, Hyer Wellness and Ex-Captures Drone Services with a number of other sponsorship opportunities still available.
